Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions
How can I become a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan?
Habitat Saskatchewan currently has 3 ReStores which are in the following locations: Regina, Saskatoon, and Prince Albert.
Volunteering at the ReStore is a great way to give back to your community, help the environment, develop new skills, and gain hands-on experience in retail! Volunteer opportunities include customer service, stocking shelves, tidying the store, cleaning donations, building, and moving furniture, and testing donations.
We can accommodate individuals or groups of any size with customized tasks that best suit the physical abilities of your crew. We are a barrier-free workplace that can accommodate any physical limitations. Individuals or groups can volunteer for a few hours or a whole day.
You can volunteer any day between Tuesday to Saturday during our regular store hours.
If you are looking to volunteer at our ReStores in Saskatoon and Regina, please visit our website to sign-up and register for a volunteer shift.
If you are looking to volunteer at our ReStore in Prince Albert, please contact us at 306-763-7463 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Registering for a volunteer shift at the ReStore ensures that we can work with you that day. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate you if you show up without registering.
What are the age requirements for volunteering?
The age requirement to become a volunteer is 16. If you are under the age of 16, please call the restore to discuss opportunities.
What types of volunteer opportunities are available?
At Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan, there are various volunteer opportunities available to support their mission of providing affordable housing. Here are some of the types of volunteer roles you can take on:
- Build Site Volunteer: As a build site volunteer, you can participate in constructing homes for families in need. No prior construction experience is required as Habitat Saskatchewan provides training and guidance. You can assist with tasks such as framing, painting, landscaping, or general site cleanup.
- Restore Volunteer: Volunteering at a Habitat Restore is another way to contribute. You can help with sorting, organizing, and pricing donated items, as well as assisting customers with their purchases. Restores also require volunteers for administrative tasks, customer service, and donation pickups.
Do I need any specific skills or experience to volunteer?
While some volunteer roles may require specific skills or experience, many opportunities with Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan do not require prior experience. Our team provides necessary training and guidance to ensure volunteers can contribute effectively. However, having construction skills or related experience can be an asset for certain roles.
Can I volunteer as part of a group or organization?
Absolutely! Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan welcomes group volunteers, including corporate teams, community organizations, faith groups, and schools. Group volunteering can be a great team-building experience and a way to make a significant impact on our projects. Please contact our volunteer coordinator in advance to discuss group volunteer opportunities and scheduling.
What is the time commitment for volunteering?
The time commitment for volunteering can vary depending on the specific opportunity you choose. We have both short-term and long-term volunteer opportunities available. Some volunteers may commit to a full day or multiple days for construction projects, while others may contribute a few hours each week in an office or ReStore setting. We appreciate any time you can dedicate to our mission.
Are there any costs associated with volunteering?
There are no costs associated with volunteering for most positions at Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan. However, for construction volunteers, we may request a small contribution toward the cost of materials or provide an option for you to purchase a volunteer t-shirt. We rely on donations and fundraising efforts to support our projects, so any financial contributions are greatly appreciated.
