Habitat for Humanity is an international non-profit organization that helps families build and improve their homes. One of the essential components of its mission is ReStores. These stores offer a unique way for people to donate their gently used items and contribute to the greater housing continuum. The profits made from the sale of donated items go directly towards building partner family homes, making it a win-win situation for everyone involved.
In Saskatchewan, Habitat for Humanity has three ReStores, one in Regina, one in Prince Albert, and one in Saskatoon. These stores accept individual donations of gently used items, but they also welcome businesses to donate leftover construction goods or finished rental projects. These donations are then cleaned up and put on the sales floor, where they can be sold to the public at a reasonable price.
But ReStores wouldn’t be possible without the help of volunteers. They play a crucial role in the success of ReStore and all of Habitat for Humanity’s builds. Anyone interested in volunteering can head over to habitatsaskatchewan.ca/volunteer and fill out a form. Whether it’s working at the receiving end or on the sales floor, every little bit helps.
Recently, the old CEO of Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan, Denis Perrault, shared more information about ReStores in a video with Cole Zawislak of the Saskatchewan Realtors Association. During the video, he explained that ReStores are able to offer affordable housing in Saskatchewan to those in need, thanks to the donations and purchases made by the people in our community. He also mentioned that all profits made from ReStores go towards building partner family homes, which means that every donation and purchase made has a direct impact on someone’s life.
In conclusion, ReStores are an integral part of Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to provide affordable housing in Saskatchewan and low-cost Regina programs. By donating, shopping, or volunteering at these stores, people can make a significant impact on the lives of families in need. If you’re interested in getting involved, head over to habitatsaskatchewan.ca to learn more. Together, we can make a difference and help build homes for families in need.
