Tackling the Housing Crisis: Home by Midnight Gala Raises $82,000 for Affordable Homeownership

After taking a few days to reflect on an incredible evening, we are still overwhelmed by the energy, generosity, and community spirit at our first Home by Midnight gala. On May 3, 2025, 344 of you joined us at Casino Regina for a night of impact and entertainment. At a time when the housing crisis in Canada continues to grow, events like this prove just how powerful our community can be when we rally around a shared mission: building homes, hope, and a better future.

And thanks to you, we raised over $82,000 (after expenses!) to support affordable homeownership right here in Saskatchewan.

A Creative Fundraiser for a Critical Cause

This wasn’t your typical gala. As donations came in, our team built a house live on stage, piece by piece. Each milestone added walls and a roof, turning your contributions into something tangible. It was a visual and emotional reminder of why we do what we do.

We also added a fun and symbolic element: guests could buy keys to unlock one of four doors placed around the room. Those who unlocked a door moved to the final round, where one lucky person opened the completed on-stage house to reveal the grand prize.

We were also honored to be joined by Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski, and to open the evening with a traditional Indigenous land acknowledgment led by a dancer and drummer, paying respect to the Treaty 4 territory we reside on.

Why This Work Matters

Here at Habitat Saskatchewan, we believe that everyone deserves a safe, decent, and affordable place to call home. But for too many families in our province, and across Canada, that dream feels out of reach. As the housing crisis worsens, nonprofit housing solutions are more important than ever.

That’s why every dollar raised at Home by Midnight will go directly toward helping families break the cycle of poverty through affordable homeownership.

Looking Ahead

We’re beyond grateful for the support we received in our first year. The success of Home by Midnight has inspired us to dream even bigger for 2026. We know the path to solving Canada’s housing crisis isn’t easy, but together we’re making real progress, one home at a time.
