Celebrating Together: Welcoming Two New Homeowners

July 29, 2025, Regina, Saskatchewan – Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan, along with donors and community members, will gather today to celebrate a major milestone — a home dedication where two families will receive their keys and officially become homeowners.
This event was a full community celebration. In addition to the ceremony, everyone was invited to stay for a block party featuring food from El Tropezón (who donated $2 from every food item sold to Habitat), bouncy castles, lawn games, and Dairy Queen ice cream treats.
“To be honest, it feels like peace of mind. Having our own house was always a dream. Our children will grow up and say, ‘this is the place we finished elementary, high school, and university. This is the place we call home.’ And it will be our permanent home from now on.” – Abdirisak, one of the new Habitat homeowners.
Construction of these two homes began in November 2024 led by Fiorante Homes. Both families have completed their required 500 volunteer hours as part of Habitat’s homeownership program. They will begin moving into their new homes in the days following the celebration.

This year we wanted to expand that celebration beyond the ceremony itself. The block party is our way of saying thank you to the families, the volunteers, the donors, and the entire community.” – Kelsey Stewart, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan.
The project was made possible through the support of generous funders and partners, including WF Botkin who donated all the concrete, and $15,000 from South Saskatchewan Community Foundation – Lorne and Evelyn Johnson grant.
The Government of Canada also contributed $192,000 toward the completion of these two homes.
Through the Affordable Housing Fund under the National Housing Strategy, the Government of Canada has made a total funding commitment of $893,000 towards Habitat Saskatchewan projects over the years, including these homes. This funding commitment includes a Black Families Funding investment of $250,000.

Since 2019, the Government of Canada has supported Habitat for Humanity Canada in reaching a goal of building 804 homes across Canada through a $65.1 million investment from the Government of Canada’s Affordable Housing Fund.
