What is a Habitat Saskatchewan Chapter?

Habitat Saskatchewan serves as the main hub for the province and operates as an Affiliate, working in close collaboration with Habitat Canada and other Affiliates across the Federation. Together, we strive to make affordable homeownership a reality for families in Saskatchewan.

Chapters are an extension of Habitat Saskatchewan, operating in rural communities outside of Regina, Saskatoon, and Prince Albert. Each Chapter is managed by a volunteer-led Steering Committee and sub-committees, with oversight and support from Habitat Saskatchewan. This structure ensures Chapters align with the broader mission and vision of providing safe, decent, and affordable housing across the province.

How Do Chapters Succeed?

Chapter Responsibilities

Financial Reddiness
Chapters are responsible for securing at least 80% of the projected building costs through fundraising before any construction can begin. This significant upfront funding requirement ensures the project’s financial stability and demonstrates local commitment.
Volunteer Committments
A chapter requires a fully staffed Steering Committee and active sub-committees for family selection, fundraising, build management, marketing, and volunteer recruitment. These teams need to be dedicated and proactive in fulfilling the chapter’s ongoing obligations.
Rigorous Standards for Housing Projects
Chapters must adhere to strict construction standards and secure local building permits, subject to review and approval by our Build Department. Any deviations from the agreed-upon plans or delays require prior approval.
Compliance with Brand and Communication Protocols
All chapter activities must follow Habitat’s brand guidelines, including approved use of the logo, adherence to branding policies, and clear communication protocols. Media engagement and event promotions must align with guidelines provided by our Marketing Department.
Safety and Accountability
Chapters must follow stringent safety practices on all build sites, maintaining up-to-date records and ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards. Volunteer supervision and safety are a core chapter responsibility, requiring regular training and documentation.
