Habitat for Humanity Saskatchewan is a local nonprofit housing organization with a global vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. We mobilize communities to help working, lower-income families build strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.
With the help of volunteers, donors, and community partners; we provide a solid foundation for better, healthier lives for families in Saskatchewan. Habitat Saskatchewan was created when Habitat Regina, Habitat Saskatoon and Habitat Prince Albert merged at the beginning of 2021. Our goal was to come together to broaden our reach so we can serve more families in our communities and across the province.
Habitat Saskatchewan has served over thousands of families throughout our existence, providing a hand up to more than 200 families so parents and children can have a safe, decent, and affordable place to call home. Our organization recognizes the importance of both low-income housing and affordable homes, which is why families selected to partner with Habitat Saskatchewan will potentially become a homeowner and have access to affordable mortgages. These families are also responsible for completing 500 volunteer hours before their mortgage is signed, helping to build their own homes and other low-income housing projects.
Homes are not “FREE” at Habitat Saskatchewan! Our work takes a village and we rely on the help of so many people in our communities so we can partner with more families throughout Saskatchewan.

The Habitat Homeownership Program currently provides families the opportunity to purchase a home at fair market value with zero-down payment and is an interest-free mortgage with payments set at 25% of the family’s gross annual household income. Yes, homes are not free! Families pay for a mortgage that we initiate with them and we sign a mortgage with them once they have completed their 500 volunteer hours.
Mortgage payments are invested into a revolving fund, called the Fund for Humanity, which is used by Habitat Saskatchewan to build more homes for low-income families in the community. This partnership is a hand-up and not a hand-out!
Habitat Saskatchewan receives funding through the Federal and Provincial Governments, our cities and communities, corporations, businesses, and individuals through monetary and gift-in-kind donations, and let’s not forget about fundraising events.
If it weren’t for Government grants, donations from our community and cities, donated funds and materials, and volunteers building homes for families in need would not be possible.
In support of our homebuilding activity, we operate a network of social enterprise home improvement retail stores called Habitat ReStores.
Our 3 current locations across Saskatchewan collect and sell new and used donated home furnishings, home accessories, and renovation/building materials at a fraction of the original price.
Revenue generated through our Habitat ReStores helps to fund the cost to build homes, which allows the majority of donor dollars to go directly towards our mission. The Habitat ReStore model reduces the need for the production of new materials and the consumption of natural resources. It extends the value of new and gently-used household items, eliminating unnecessary waste, and ultimately decreasing our collective carbon footprint.
